Mud Lake Music Fest set to go this weekend

The “Biggest Little City in the Rainy River Valley”—located south of Devlin—will be hosting a showcase of local talent this Sunday at Mud Lake City’s ninth-annual Music Fest.

Owners Wayne and Betty Salchert are encouraging everyone to come check out the continuous music on two stages played by local musicians.

Musical performances will begin around 11:30 a.m. and lunch and refreshments will be sold on site.

There is free admission to the event, but visitors are asked to bring their own chairs.

There is also handicap parking available and shuttles will be running from the parking lot to the “City.”

For those who have never attended the event before, not only is there music throughout the day, but there is also plenty to see at Mud Lake City.

The Salcherts acquired the property in 1976 and began using it as a storage place. But with Wayne being a restorer of antique vehicles and because of the couple’s enjoyment of collectibles, the buildings slowly started to house the collectibles.

In 1996, the buildings began to be fronted with the old western-style look and other buildings were added—some moved in and some built on site.

Betty Salchert explained the “City” is a collection of antiques, collectibles and wanna-bes, retro and oddities.

“There are items dating from the early 1900’s to the 1970’s,” she noted, adding everyone is encouraged to come check it out and take a walk back in time.

Salchert mentioned articles of interest are on display for enjoyment and reminiscence. Some of the items include glassware, cameras, stoves, radios, clocks, tools, old vehicles, and a display of antique tractors.

“People are welcome to browse freely through the old-time town, including a General Store, Feed and Seed, and Homestead Products,” she added.

Mud Lake City is located south of Devlin, at No. 1839 Boxalder Road West.
