With the provincial election coming up Oct. 10, a new Liberal candidate for the Kenora-Rainy River riding was selected over the weekend.
Mike Wood, a Dryden city councillor, garnered the most votes (170) cast by Liberal party members at the travelling ballot box which was taken to Kenora, Dryden and Sioux Lookout.
Also on the ballot were Sioux Lookout councillor David Gordon and Lake of the Woods Hospital board member Blair McCallum.
According to the Kenora Daily Miner & News, Wood looks forward to debating current MPP and NDP candidate Howard Hampton on issues pertinent to the region, such as electricity.
Wood also thinks that, assuming the Liberal government gets into power again, it is very important for the riding to have a Liberal representative in Queen’s Park.
Woods will be starting his campaign soon and plans to tour the Kenora-Rainy River riding and meet the constituents.
