Muskie football tryouts tonight

Young gridiron fans take note—the Muskies football tryouts begin today and all Fort Frances High School students interested in playing for the black-and-gold should head for the fields behind the school at 5 p.m. this evening.
“Everyone is welcome to come in and give it a go,” head coach Vince Gouin said. “Last year I think we had 38 players on our roster, so (they’re) always welcome to have new people come in.”
Prospective Muskies are encouraged to bring cleats but running shoes will be fine for the tryout. All other equipment will be provided by the team.
Practices will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. from today to next Wednesday (Aug. 29). Final cuts will be made the following day, after a series of half-hour preseason scrimmages at Tec Voc High School in Winnipeg.
The team will begin regular season play with a home game against Sturgeon Heights on Sept. 7 at 3 p.m.
While the team will be sporting a new head coach in Gouin, he insisted for the most part, it’ll be business as usual with the team.
“It’ll be pretty much around the same way Muskie football has been run. We have a strong tradition within the community and within the Rainy River district,” he said.
