The Rainy Lake Conservancy will hold its annual general meeting here Sunday afternoon, with speakers from the Canadian Border Service Agency being brought in to speak about border-crossing issues for lake residents.
“This arose because some residents had questions being raised about just what is being asked of us, and the whole purpose is to get some clarity so we can get a better understanding of what is required [by] Canada Customs and immigration,” Conservancy president Anne Newhart noted this morning.
Newhart said many members had expressed “confusion” about requirements on the lake, and that Doug Cuthbertson, superintendent of traffic operations for the CBSA, and Jennifer Silver, an enforcement liaison officer, will field questions after addressing the crowd.
The guests will speak at 4 p.m. at La Place Rendez-Vous, following a Conservancy business meeting that starts at 3 p.m.
A social gathering will follow after the speakers wrap up.
Newhart said the afternoon is open to “everyone who loves Rainy Lake and wants to preserve Rainy Lake, which is the purpose of our organization.”
