Fastball all-stars announced

    The Rainy River District Fastball League’s all-star rosters were announced in advance of tomorrow night’s game at Sabaskong.
    Two of the top teams in the league—the Sight & Sound Wolves and the Barwick Blue Knights—will be well-represented, with six players apiece.
    Team One will be managed by Barwick’s George Oltsher, who will pitch with Bob Andy. Oltsher and Andy have 6-0 and 11-0 records, respectively.
    The team also will have Jessie Tom, who leads the RRDFL in home runs with 11.
    “It should be fun managing any of these guys,” said Oltsher. “They’re all fun guys to play with or against.”
    Derek McKinnon of the Wolves will manage and play first base for Team Two. Murray Armstrong, the only other 10-game winner (10-5) in the league, will pitch for Team Two with Jeff Morrison (5-5).
    Armstrong also is the resident slugger on the team, whose seven regular-season dingers put him second behind Tom.
    The teams are decided by votes from the players, who select players from all other teams per position. The leading vote-getters are selected to Team One, with the runners-up selected to Team Two.
    Managers are appointed based on last year’s playoff final.
    While Team One is made up entirely of top selections, Oltsher warned Team Two has won in the past. “I think both teams are quite well-represented,” he said.
    The all-star game, which gets underway at 7 p.m. tomorrow, serves as a bridge to the playoffs, which begin Aug. 9.
