Barwick jumps into second-place tie in RRDFL

The Barwick Blue Knights trounced Rainy River 15-6 in Rainy River District Fastball action last Thursday night, drawing the two teams even in the standings with 7-4 records.
Pitcher Jason Wilson picked up the win and added a home run in what Blue Knights’ manager George Oltsher said was an important performance.
Wilson only recently returned to the region—and the Barwick team—for the summer, and Oltsher insisted he was “quite happy with the return” of the hurler.
Oltsher was quick to note the score was somewhat inflated by the mid-game departure of Royals’ stalwart Murray Armstrong due to a minor injury. He was replaced by one of Rainy River’s younger pitchers.
“It’s a lot of runs, but that happens sometimes when you get a couple home runs and you’re trying to break in a new pitcher,” he said.
“They’ve got to get a chance to play or they don’t get better,” he added.
Will Derkson hit the other home run of the night for Barwick.
