Wolves plaster Big Island

    The Sight and Sound Wolves extended their winning streak to eight games with a 22-7 shellacking of Big Island.
    “We hate doing that. We hate playing games like that ’cause it doesn’t really make for good ball. But we still play them anyway,” laughed winning pitcher Bob Andy. “Better than a forfeit.”
    Andy only toed the rubber for the first four innings, giving way to Marcell Pagee when the game started to get out of reach for the visiting Big Island team.
    None of the regular Big Island pitchers were present, so the team was forced to use “anybody who could throw something close to a strike,” Andy said. The result was a lot of walks and a handful of hit batters, and when pitches were put over the plate, they were often hit.
    “They didn’t really have their full squad there, and they even had to use a little 13-year-old boy there. We had to lend them a player,” Andy said.
    Andy also collected a couple of dingers en route to the win, along with a homer by Cole Kaemingh. For Big Island, Ernest Indian picked up both a home run and the loss, along with a home run by Jessie Tom.
    Also on Thursday, Rainy River won two games against Big Grassy in a doubleheader to keep pace with Barwick for second place. Murray Armstrong picked up both wins over Melvin Major, by a 5-2 and a 2-1 score. No home runs were hit in either defensive affair.
