Pronger, Cup set to visit Dryden

Chris Pronger of the Stanley Cup-winning Anaheim Ducks will be in his hometown of Dryden on Wednesday afternoon for a parade and ceremony.
“The City of Dryden wanted to plan a big event to congratulate Chris and thank him for all he’s done in the community,” said Mike Ebbeling, the media representative for the event.
Pronger will start his visit with a tour of the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
The parade then will run shortly before 2 p.m. from the hospital to the arena on Whyte Avenue, where a ceremony will be held at 2:30 p.m.
The parade route was changed due to construction and is not yet finalized, so anyone interested in viewing it is encouraged to be at the arena shortly after 2 p.m.
Confirmed speakers at the ceremony include Dryden Mayor Anne Krassilowsky, Kenora MP Roger Valley, and Dryden High School athletic director Geoff Zilkalns.
Jack McMaster, director of education with the Rainy River District School Board and a former coach of Pronger, will be the emcee.
Other guests may be confirmed closer to Wednesday.
Pronger’s Dryden Eagles’ jersey also will be retired at Dryden High School, where he played as a teenager.
Anyone interested in further details of Wednesday’s event should contact the City of Dryden at 1-807-223-2225.
