A full slate of Fun in the Sun activities is planned for Canada Day, despite the fact it falls on a Sunday this year.
The Br. #29 Legion Ladies Auxiliary will host their annual Canada Day pancake breakfast from 7-10 a.m. upstairs at the Legion. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 10.
The parade will be moved from its usual morning time slot to 1 p.m. so as not to interfere with church services.
The parade will start at the Sorting Gap Marina, head west along the riverfront to La Verendrye Hospital, and then north on Victoria Avenue to Church Street, where it will turn west to end up at the Legion.
The theme for this year’s parade is “Dreams Come True,” and each of the five Fun in the Sun queen contestants will be dressed as different Disney princesses.
Anyone still interested in entering a float in the parade can register by calling Dawn Booth at 274-1843.
Legion members will be handing out ice cream to children after the parade.
From there, Canada Day celebrants are asked to head out to Pither’s Point Park, where the FITS queen contestants will hold their annual picnic basket auction.
The judges will tally their final results and the 2007 queen will be crowned.
Also at the Point, there will be bathtub races, bingo, food booths, and kids’ activities, including a sand castle contest.
“Due to financial constraints, we’re going with the basics,” Booth noted.
Anyone interested in running an activity at the Point on Sunday can contact Booth at the above phone number.
The fireworks will be set off from “Seven Oaks” sometime after 10 p.m.
Spectators are encouraged to line up along the waterfront to watch the display.
