For Peter Engberg’s “Wing-N-It,” last Wednesday (June 6) was a night of firsts.
In his first sail of the season, he won Week 3 of the Rendezvous Yacht Club’s Spring Series.
“Wing-N-It” is a Lindberg 26, which completed the race in 22 minutes, 24 seconds.
Following Engberg were Quinn McCarthy and Colin Hewitt. McCarthy’s S2 “Sedna” completed the course in 23:51 for second place while Hewitt’s Catalina 25, known as “Ariba,” finished third in 24:12.
It was a wet and blustery night for the sailors.
The race started in cloudy skies, with winds out of the east/southeast. Then once the rain began, the winds picked up to about 15 m.p.h., with stronger gusts.
After one false start, the race continued on a windward/leeward mark for three legs. Despite the conditions, crews were happy to get a race in after canceling Week 2 due to thunderstorms.
Following the race, the club held its monthly meeting at La Place Rendez-Vous, where they will be holding training for new crew on June 23 and 24, which is open to adults who would like to learn basic sailing skills.
Cost of the two-day program in $25 (U.S.) or $30 (Cdn.), which includes an associate membership in the club.
