Emo Cowboys lasso tourney title

The Emo Cowboys used a strong defensive game to edge the Fort Frances Oddfellows 3-2 there Sunday to win a four-team Bantam ‘A’ tournament.
The Ear Falls Eagles dumped the Emo Panthers 8-2 in the ‘B’-final. Jason Webb got both Emo goals.
Jeremy Hyatt opened the scoring for the Cowboys early in the first frame, then Tyler Mann tallied in the second to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
Cody Hayward, assisted by Scott Grynol, sliced into that lead midway in the second but Jeff LaFleur (assisted by Hyatt and Jennifer Caul) scored with 5:40 to go in the period to regain Emo’s two-goal advantage.
Hayward, assisted by Steve Van Dulmen, notched his second of the game with just over four minutes left in regulation but that was as close as the Oddfellows would get.
The Cowboys were strong defensively all weekend, giving up just six goals en route to a perfect 4-0 record.
They opened play Saturday with a 5-0 shutout over the Oddfellows. Caul and Hyatt led the way with a pair of goals and an assist, with Caleb Firth netting Emo’s other goal.
Bill Angus earned the shutout in goal.
The Cowboys trounced the Eagles 6-2 in their next game Saturday, led by two-goal efforts by Firth and Caul. Adam McCormick and Jonathon Woodgate also scored in that one.
Then the Cowboys dumped the Emo Panthers 7-2 on Sunday. Jonathan Kinnear led the attack with a hat trick while Hyatt added a pair. Jason Caul also tallied (the other Emo goal scorer was not known).
Daniel Hettinga and Kyle McTavish replied for the Panthers, who were relegated to the ‘B’-final after losing 4-2 to the Eagles and 5-3 to the Oddfellows.
Curtis Galusha and Kyle McTavish scored in the loss to Ear Falls while McTavish, Matthew Meyers, and Hettinga all hit the twine against the Oddfellows.
Terry Kellar had a hat trick for the Oddfellows versus the Panthers, with Grynol and Ryan Calder also scoring.
Scoring for the Oddfellows in their wild 10-8 win over the Eagles were Damian Allan (four), Van Dulmen (two), Ryan Smith (two), Grynol, and Kellar.
