The Aquanauts had an excellent meet at the regionals in Thunder Bay last weekend, breaking three club records and finishing with several medals en route to a third-place finish overall.
“It was probably our best finish at a meet in a long time,” head coach Debbie Murray said, admitting she expected this high of a finish.
“There were a phenomenal [number] of best times,” she added. “But all the swimmers should be commended for their behaviour, sportsmanship and swim results.”
Boyd Badiuk, 10, led the Aquanauts with eight first-place finishes, including setting a new club record in the 10-and-under 100m backstroke (1:25.80), to earn the high-point trophy for the boy’s 10-and-under division.
Meanwhile, Alyssa Holliday, 10, broke a club record in the 200m breaststroke in the girls’ 10-and-under age division (3:31) while Jeff Plumridge, 17, eclipsed the Aquanauts’ record in the 100m breaststroke for 15-and-over (1:13.11).
Holliday finished with a pair of second-place finishes and a third while Plumridge had four firsts and a second.
Gavin Paull also had a strong meet, finishing with four firsts and four seconds, while Alex Parent recorded three firsts and five seconds.
Kyle Perrott placed first in three events while also adding a second-place finish. Brendan Cumming earned a pair of first-place medals and two thirds.
Also turning in good showings were Sarah McTavish (one first, four seconds, and a third), Rachel Dutton (one first and one second), Steve Gushulak (pair of firsts and four thirds), and Kenneth Kellar (two firsts, one second, and a third).
Finally, Karli McKinnon had three third-place finishes while Jamie Beadow and Jessica Cousineau each had a third-place showing.
