Big turnout on hand for Emo ice show

The Emo Figure Skating Club–along with their very capable instructor, Marie-Josee Potvin, moms, and helpers–staged a grand finale to the season with their annual ice show Sunday afternoon.
This year’s theme was “Century of Memories,” which dated back to the Waltz, featuring skaters Trevor Baker, Kayla Caul, MacKenzie Caul, Noreen Hartlin, JJ Hunsperger, Brandy Hyatt, Cara Jack, Laureen Luchka, Alysia McTavish, Nadine Mutz, Ashley Nordin, and Jessica Woodgate.
Then Justin Benjamin, Coltin Craig, Kennedy Kellar, Marissa Kinnear, Paige McNally, Taylor Pelepetz, Julia Roen, Dakota Sutherland, Dallas Swire, Taylor Swire, Jenaya VanHeyst, Codey Vien, and Jenna Wilson followed in the presentation, “My 1910 Dream.”
The junior skaters–Kayla Benjamin, Dana Drennan, Robyn Gumlak, Brittany Jackson, Taylor Latimer, Kelsey McLean, Nicki Mosbeck, and Ashlee Nordstrom, along with soloist Nadine Mutz–rendered the 1920 Charleston in their sparkling costumes.
Solo skater Brandy Hyatt, who captured several gold medals at competitions in Thunder Bay and Kenora this season, presented the 1930 Cabaret.
She was followed by another soloist, Noreen Hartlin, who showed off her skating skills while reflecting back to the Wonderful World of the 1940s-50s.
Rock n’ Roll artists Samantha Brown, Meagan Beacham, Chelsey Craig, Carissa Guertin, Kennedy Latimer, Elliott Leonard, Jennifer McDowall, Alyssa Oenner, Jessica Roen, Katelyn Soucy, Mary Beth Soucy, Hailey Swire, and Paige Vien next reviewed the years 1950-1960.
Then the junior and senior skaters, also featuring soloist Ashley Nordin and the duo of Cara Jack and Laureen Luchka, brought to life the Peace and Love of the 1960s-70s.
Still sticking to the 1960s, Kayla Caul beautifully accomplished her skating technically in Aquarius.
The memories of the century continued with hockey players Matthew Beck, Brock Benjamin, Cole Benjamin, Brayden Baker, Joe Bodnar, Terry Carmody, Riley Caul, Charlie DeBungee, Nathan DeBungee, Cody Drennan, Tyler Huntley, Chris Mutz, TJ Roen, Travis Showalter, Ryan Witherspoon, and Ashley Woolsey reliving the unforgettable Canada-Russia summit series of 1972.
The juniors then came on strong in Disco, with soloist Judith Hunsperger dancing her way around the ice surface.
The Jackson Mania was another thing in the musical world, with the junior and senior skaters going through the routines, helped by the duo of Trevor Barker and Jessica Woodgate.
Finally, the senior skaters, all decked out in blue costumes, showcased the last decade of the century, focusing on the history of music through the 90s and into the new millennium
Then the grand finale, including EFSC skaters and everyone who wished to join the group, completed the entertaining afternoon.
Senior skaters had a few words of thanks for club pro Marie-Josee Potvin, giving her a gift and flowers in appreciation from the EFSC.
A big bouquet to the skaters, parents, coaches, and everyone who in any way helped prepare the show, those who had designed the rink decorations, and the fans who came out to support the club.
Without all of you, the show could not have gone on.
Commentators Doug Hodge and Cathy Mosbeck reflected on the “Century of Musical Memories” prior to the skaters’ performances.
The announcer was Sean Latimer and Evie Hartlin handled the tape music.
