Colonels, Gillons’ compete at Thunder Bay tourney

The local Kentucky Colonels ‘A’ PeeWees finished with a 1-2 record at a hockey tournament in Thunder Bay last weekend.
The Colonels opened action Friday morning with a 3-2 win over the North End Flames (Thunder Bay). They had grabbed a 2-1 lead after two periods on goals by Tanner Ward and Tim Windigo but the Flames tied it up early in the third.
Mike Dodge, assisted by David Pierce, then was the hero when he tallied the game-winner just over two minutes later.
But the Colonels ran into some offensive trouble in their next two games–losing 4-1 to the Westfort Happy Time Tours and then 3-1 to the Northwood Knights.
Andrew Lundy and Steve Carlson each scored in the losses.
Meanwhile, Gillons’, the other local team competing there, finished the tournament with a 1-3 record. They were eliminated with a 5-3 loss to the West End Bruins (no goal scorers were available).
Gillons’ began the tournament with a 3-2 loss to Atikokan (Kyle Martin and Danny Chapman tallied in a losing cause), then dropped an exciting 9-7 decision to the Westfort Rangers.
Jerome Tuesday netted a hat trick in that one while Andrew Easton added a pair. Kevin Plett and Chapman also scored.
Their lone win was an 8-0 victory over the Dryden Ducks. Easton led the way with a hat trick, with singles going to Chapman, Melissa Calder, Shane Loyie, Kyle Martin, and Taylor Jorgenson.
