Ladies win bronze

The Fort Frances ladies’ bowling team, representing Plaza Lanes, won the bronze medal at the Golden Ages +55 Triples tournament in Dryden back on March 9.
It was the first time a team from here has brought home a medal, according to Golden Age Club secretary Roberta Chabot.
All scores were based on pins over average.
The Fort ladies’ team included Mary Clinker, Jean Legarie, and Doreen Mounk. Mounk led the trio, rolling games of 186, 147, and 125. Clinker was next with games of 161, 129, and 139 while Legarie bowled games of 104, 124, and 107.
As a team, the Fort ladies finished with a -80 score below their average.
Dryden’s Timberlanes teams dominated the ladies’ event, winning both the gold and silver medals.
On the men’s side, the Fort trio of Dick Collett, Alex Chorney, and Wes Williams combined to place sixth. Timberlanes won both the gold and silver medals while Kenora captured the bronze.
Williams was the top local men’s bowler, rolling games of 207, 168, and 128 (based on his average). Chorney was next after games of 158, 141, and 155 followed by Collett at 174, 158, and 113.
