The town’s official centennial celebration may not be until April 11, 2003 but a contest to get a logo and slogan for the event is now underway.
“We want a slogan and logo to really start promoting this thing,” centennial committee member Pam Hawley said Thursday.
“It’s going to be big. We’ve started the 100-week countdown and time’s just going to fly by,” she noted.
“We’re looking for any image that represents 100 years of local history,” Hawley said of the contest. “The logo can be a design, trademark, figure, or symbol.
“And we’re looking for a catchy phrase that will get people to come to the centennial events,” she added.
Logo and slogan suggestions should be marked “Logo and Slogan Contest” when submitted, and be accompanied by an explanation or short story as to why the committee should choose it.
Entries must be submitted no later than noon on June 12.
They can be dropped off at the town hall or mailed to Bill Naturkach, Administrator, 320 Portage Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3P9.

The winners will be announced at the July 1 celebration this year, where they will receive a token of appreciation from the mayor and council.
“We thought that Canada Day would be a good time to get the community involved and really promote the centennial celebration,” said Hawley.
The logo and slogan selected will become the sole property of the town, and will be used for any purposes in its sole discretion. They may be permitted for use by others but only with written consent.
The committee is scheduling events for the official date of April 11, 2003, as well as during the week of June 30-July 4 that year to coincide with “Fun in the Sun.”
Other events also will be held throughout 2003, and the committee is encouraging the community to adopt a centennial theme to use all year long.
