Rae hangs up nursing hat

RN Arlene Rae started her career at La Verendrye hospital in Fort Frances in January, 1964 and put in her last day back in December.
Hopefully, this sends a message to all that our local hospital has been worthy of Rae’s excellent nursing ability for more than 35 years.
Rae was honoured with a surprise retirement party May 17. She was told she was going out for dinner and actually believed that until she was taken to the Legion and realized co-workers and doctors had all put their heads together to give her a night to remember.
After getting over the initial surprise, Rae enjoyed the evening immensely.
Rae’s immediate family attended, along with her sister, Lynne Anne, from Winnipeg. Also driving in from Thunder Bay was Diana, the mother of her daughter-in-law Tracey.
Along with many tributes, Drs. Johnstone, Mackintosh, and Spencer spoke in Rae’s honour. A group of talented performers also composed a song that brought a lot of laughs.
Rae, herself, gave a very good farewell speech, touching on many special memories of the past. She also was showered with many special gifts that she will cherish.
Rae and husband, Ed, will continue to live in their comfortable home. Hopefully she’ll get more flower beds done and continue to feed her birds.
Her two sons, Mark and Dan, along with their wives, Glenna and Tracey, live close by.
And the four grandchildren–Robby, Shelby, Jessica, and Jake–surely will all add to making Rae’s well-deserved retirement a happy and fulfilling one.
