Truck centre opening soon

The new Fort Frances Peterbilt Truck Centre is slated to open next Monday (July 10) to serve both the Rainy River and Kenora districts.
“We hope to serve Kenora, Dryden, Fort Frances, and into the U.S.,” said operations manager David Mack from his Thunder Bay office.
The local truck centre is opening to cater to those who have to travel great distances.
“We cover quite a large area from Wawa to the Manitoba border and we felt Fort Frances would be a great spot to put a new facility,” said Mack.
“You have some major trucking firms on the border, it was the ideal location for us.”
The new truck centre is under construction on McIrvine Road in the west end of town. The 10,000 square foot building mainly will be used to service vehicles.
“Most of our sales will be out of Thunder Bay, the main thrust [here] will be parts and service,” Mack explained, though adding three or four vehicles up for sale may be displayed on the site.
Currently, a number of truck owners have to travel great distances to have their vehicles repaired. And the local truck centre is expected to expand its services after the first year.
“Initially, we’re going to start with five employees in the first 12 to 18 months and then maybe hire 10-12 employees if we go to shifts,” said Mack.
The centre will have a grand opening Aug. 17.
