Soon you’ll be able to purchase a home in Victoria, B.C.–without even leaving your one here in Fort France.
At least, that’s what local teacher Trevor Bowles is hoping for.
He started a company last year called clickahomecanada.com., an on-line marketplace for houses across the country. This kind of web site already is effective for selling houses locally but Bowles saw a bigger potential.
“A couple of people are selling locally [on-line], and I figured, it’s great locally but why not get some national advertising exposure?” he remarked.
Sellers fill out an on-line form describing their house (location, size, number of rooms, etc.), the asking price, and can submit photos. Contact information is given, including a phone number and e-mail address, and the sale could be started.
Bowles was inspired when he ran into problems looking for a new home.
“We had to contact different realty companies each time and then more for private sellers,” he said. “I thought it would be easier to sit at a computer, pick and choose, get their contact information, and go.”
At this point, clickahomecanada.com is just starting out. So far, there has been interest in Fort Frances, Oakville, Cornwall, and Kenora.
Bowles is advertising across northern and eastern Ontario, and will be travelling to attract business as far away as British Columbia and Nova Scotia.
Eventually, he hopes to enlist 250 cities across Canada.
