Double-dipping

Dear editor:
What are the sworn duties, commitments, and obligations of an MPP to the constituents that elected him?
Answer: Represent constituents’ interests in provincial governance at Queen’s Park in Toronto. That is what our provincial tax dollars pay our elected MPPs to do.
We now have a federal election–to elect our federal MP–to represent our constituents’ interests in Ottawa.
In the last few days, our MPP, Howie Hampton, has been more visible in our riding than in the last year–bagging groceries, hammering signs, door-to-door canvassing, cutting ribbons, etc.
The mandate of every MPP is to take care of provincial business. It is blatant “double-dipping” to have your plane fare, expenses, etc. charged to your provincial office while you are campaigning in a federal election.
To you and every other MPP, go take care of provincial business. That is what you were elected for–and paid to do.
Signed,
Roger Dolyny
