Chapple celebrates Canada Day

A chilly morning greeted community members and guests who gathered in Barwick for the annual festivities celebrating Canada’s birthday.
Participants in the parade gathered at the municipal grounds north of Highway 11. Heather Oltsher and June Wheatley registered those taking part, which included decorated bikes, antique cars, tractors, and late-model fire engines all focusing on Canada Day.
Led by Doug Giles of Rainy River with his sound system, the parade preceded down Main Street pass Barwick Garage, turning towards the ball park.
Other parade participants passed by the Barwick Village Restaurant, turning at the next point to the ball park area, where judges Gertie O’Sullivan, LaVerne Tibold, James O’Sullivan, June Wheatley, and Heather Oltsher selected the winners in different categories.

The bike, donated by Chuck Harrison, was won by David Barron while the bike and helmet donated by Voyageur Panel went ot Miranda Labelle.
The tot’s picnic table, donated by the Village Restaurant, was won by Teagen Lauzon.
The Canada Day parade committee would like to thank those who had donated prizes, the volunteers who had helped in any way to make this event a success, and to everyone who came out to celebrate Canada Day.
