Local ‘birders’ win medals

The Fort Frances Badminton Club brought home two medals after competing in the Manitoba Junior Badminton Open in Winnipeg over the weekend.
Kimika Alexander took silver in the under-13 girls’ singles event. Melissa Liew of IPP won gold (21-11, 21-6).
And Erin Gustafson and Taylor Shouldice teamed up to capture first place in the consolation event for the under-13 girls’ doubles event.
Six other junior players from the local club also competed in Winnipeg.
Anika Alexander, Sarah Bagacki, and Alexa Lesperance competed in the under-13 category, Rory Bagacki and Ryan Shouldice competed in the under-16 division, and John McCormack competed in the under-19 group.
