Company fined over trail work

An Ignace company has been fined $800 for doing trail work without a permit.
Kadlec Resort Property Inc. pleaded guilty under the Public Lands Act. It must pay $500 in restitution for damaging trees along the trail as well as clean up the damaged trees.
Court was told that between Aug. 11-18, the company reconstructed two km of an existing trail at the north end of Sturgeon Lake.
When Ministry of Natural Resources staff inspected the trail, they determined it had been significantly widened and upgraded to a road. This was done without a work permit.
Justice of the Peace John Guthrie heard the case April 10 in Ignace.
To protect the environment, the MNR reminds the public to obtain work permits before doing any work on Crown land.
Work permit applications are available from local MNR offices.
