Earth Day activities planned

In the week around Earth Day (Sunday, April 22), Rainy River First Nations has planned an array of activities to celebrate and teach ways to protect the environment.
On Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m. children can participate in decorating grocery bags, which will be given to Cloverleaf in Emo to use to bag groceries on Earth Day.
Then on Saturday, there will be a bus trip to Voyageurs National Park across the river.
“{Voyageurs] run a big Earth Day event with tours, crafts, and games,” noted organizer Adam Scott, who also is co-ordinator of the Rainy River First Nations’ watershed program.
No activities are planned for Sunday or Monday.
“We’re encouraging people to do things on their own,” Scott said, adding the annual community clean-up is scheduled for next Tuesday (April 24).
Staff and adults will take the early-afternoon shift, beginning at noon, then the children will take over once school is out for the day.
Next Thursday (April 25) will be the back-up date for the clean-up in case of rain.
For the final day next Friday (April 27), which is a P.A. Day for the children, a trip is planned to Shirley and Tom Morrish’s Willow-Mor Farms and Greg’s Recycling in Devlin.
The bus will leave from the Manitou Rapids gymnasium at 2 p.m.
