THUNDER BAY, Ont. —Four men and one woman from Ontario and British Columbia are facing numerous drug-related charges following a long-term operation by national, provincial, and local police forces.
Police say they arrested “numerous suspects” involved in the trafficking of marijuana and ecstacy earlier this week.
The arrests followed an investigation into the illegal trafficking of drugs and money from Canada to the U.S. through the Rainy River area of Northwestern Ontario.
The operation included RCMP officers from Ontario, B.C., and Alberta, as well as OPP in Fort Frances and Kenora, and the Thunder Bay, Kenora, and Nishnawbe-Aski police services.
Among the Ontario residents facing charges are a man and woman from Emo and a man from Sioux Narrows.
Two B.C. men also have been charged.
Police say the charges include conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance, trafficking in a controlled substance, and possession for the purpose of trafficking, along with firearms and property offences.
The five are to appear in Kenora provincial court and police say more arrests may come.
