BIA postpones ‘Harvest Festival’

Originally planned for Sept. 14, the Business Improvement Area may postpone its second-annual “Harvest Festival” until October due to possible road repairs on Scott Street next month.
BIA co-ordinator Laurie Beadle said yesterday the town told her it wasn’t possible to get approval to block off the 200 and 300 blocks of Scott Street for the street-based event because crews will be resurfacing there if a tender for the job is approved at this Monday night’s council meeting.
Beadle noted the BIA will hold a promotions committee meeting in the next week to determine if and when to go ahead with the event.
“If the repairs have to be done, they have to be done,” said BIA chair Ted DeBenetti, who chose to look on the bright side of rescheduling the festival.
“We need the repairs. Plus, this gives us more time to plan the event out, maybe make it more successful because of it,” he added.
DeBenetti noted he’s keeping his fingers crossed that there won’t be any snow or rain, but pointed out precipitation is often more likely here in September than October.
If the BIA decides to go ahead with the autumn-themed event, people can expect a day full of activities like inflatable playsets, kids’ crafts, woodcarving, pony rides, caramel apples and apple bobbing, a scarecrow contest, a pumpkin pie-eating contest, and corn shucking and boiling.
