Around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Fort Frances Fire & Rescue Service responded to the report of a bulldozer on fire at the Abitibi-Consolidated mill yard off Portage Avenue.
Upon arrival, responding fire personnel observed heavy smoke and fire coming from a bulldozer that had been working in the chip storage area.
The machine suffered extensive fire damage, but fortunately the fire did not spread to adjacent buildings or equipment.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and damage estimates are not yet available.
Firefighters were on scene for about an hour.
