There are only six days left to cast a ballot in the 2026 Municipal Election. Voters in Fort Frances will choose a mayor and six councillors on Oct. 26, but online voting has already begun.

The mayoral race features Brent Calder and John McTaggart. Nine candidates are seeking the six council seats: Anthony Andrusco, Mike Behan, Doug Brown, Gary Cousineau, Kaleb Firth, Nathan Galusha, Steven Maki, Kathy McKenzie and Bill Morrison Jr. Incumbents seeking re-election include Behan, Firth, Maki and Morrison, while the remaining candidates are newcomers to council politics.

School board races are also being contested. For the English Separate School Board, candidates are Lisa Cousineau and Kenny Desjardins. For the English Public School Board, candidates are Heather Latter and incumbent trustee Mike Walchuk.

Eligible voters must be Canadian citizens at least 18 years of age who live in Fort Frances, own or rent property in the community, or are the spouse of an eligible property owner or tenant. Residents should ensure they are on the municipal voters’ list and be prepared to present identification showing their name and address when they vote.

Ontario residents can confirm whether they are registered to vote via registertovoteon.ca.

Election Day is Monday, Oct. 26, with voting scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at designated polling stations.
