The annual NFN (Naicatchewenin First Nation) Bass and Walleye Tournament held September 11 and 12 was once again a topnotch tournament. 40 teams competed in this year’s tournament.
Winning first place in this year’s tournament, with a prize of $6,000, was Mike Maxton and Javyn Maxton. The duo landed a two day total of 25.68 lbs to take the top spot.
Coming in second place was Mike Wilson and Andrew Murray with 24.7 lbs, taking home a $3,000 prize.
Jordan Stus and Vince Godbout came in third overall in the tournament with a weigh in of 24.64 lbs, earning them a $2,000, with Ross Steele and Jeff Bragg taking fourth place, and $1,000, with a weigh in of 24.04 lbs, and Travis Shallock and Matt Plante rounded out the top five teams with a weigh in total of 22.28 lbs, earning them a $500 prize.
Congratulations to all these top five teams plus all the other anglers.
The weekend was great, with the organizer, volunteers and spectators all enjoying the food, penny tables, guessing games and especially the weigh ins.

NFN would like to thank their very generous sponsor Keith Smith. Keith donated a $1,000 to give back to the last five teams in the standing. Each eligible team received $200, making sure there was a little extra love all the way down the leaderboard. The only catch: both team members had to be present when prizes were awarded to claim their $200. If a team was not fully present, their team was forfeited and their share was awarded to the next eligible team, and so forth.
The dates have already been set for next years NFN tournament, so be sure to book in September 10 and 11, 2027, if you’re looking to take part in the fishing action.
The organizers are very pleased with the results of this year’s tournament. Not to say there isn’t always a few last minute snags, and mistakes to fix, but the organizers say it best, “This tournament is truly more than just fishing-it’s about bringing people together, making memories and creating something your community can be proud of!”
