The annual Naicatchewenin (North West Bay) Bass and Walleye Classics take place this weekend, Sept. 11-12. Weigh-ins start at 4 p.m. on both days. A horseshoe tournament takes place on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. Come out and try your skills at winning this event or at least having a lot of fun. Canteens are available, along with a penny table and a bouncy castle for kids. This is always a great tournament; be sure to make it part of your weekend!
Coffee Break
A new COFFEE BREAK season will begin with a Meet and Greet (coffee and goodies) at 10 a.m. (Coffee will be on at 9:30 a.m.) on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Christian Reformed Church, 18 Meadow Street in Emo. All ladies are invited to come out for a morning to fellowship with other women from our community and find out more about Coffee Break, with an introduction to the first study, “Discover James—Faith Introduction,” which will begin on Sept. 30.
Coffee Break is a nondenominational small group Bible study that is open to all women in the community. Study material is provided; no previous Bible knowledge is necessary. While moms are participating in Bible Study, children ages two and up are invited to participate in Little Lambs. There is also a nursery for infants and toddlers. Guthrie United Harvest Supper
Guthrie United Church members in Devlin will once again host their annual Harvest Supper on Sept. 20. The meal will be turkey, ham and all the traditional food that makes an excellent fall supper, including homemade pie. The cost to attend is adults $30, 6-12 years $18 and five and under eat free. This supper is advance tickets only, and they can be purchased at Devlin’s Store or by calling Kathy at (807) 276-0502, Karen at (807) 275-7277 or Trudy at (807) 276-0420.
Coffee and conversation
The La Verendrye General Hospital will hold a coffee and conversation on Sept. 14 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Fort Frances Senior Centre. Join the volunteers for coffee, dessert and socializing. Learn about upcoming fundraising. Renew your membership and discuss upcoming LVGHA projects.
Alberton garage sale
There will be an Alberton Community Garage Sale Trail on Sept. 12. from 8 a.m. to noon. Register to host your sale at home or at the park. The registration fee is payable at the Township Office.
Dance Hall bingo
There will be a bingo at the Dance Hall on Sept. 17. and Oct. 1.
La Vallee seniors coffee break
The next La Vallee Seniors coffee break is Sept. 22. from 1-3 p.m. Coffee, tea and home baking provided.
Cribbage and more at Emo Legion
The Emo Legion will start up with cribbage games on Sept. 9, and games will follow every Wednesday at 7 p.m. This is open to everyone, and the cost is $5. Seniors carpet bowling and luncheon resumes September 10. This is for ages 55 plus. There will be a cornhole tournament this Friday (Sept. 11). The entry fee is $30; pre-registration is required. The next Beer and Burger at the Emo Legion is Sept. 18.
Last week’s Beer and Burger saw Reg Weeks and Val Rose win the meat draws. Meat was provided by Sunrise Meats. Bingo starts up at the Emo Legion on Sept. 15.

Our sympathies
Sincere sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of Carol Angus. Carol passed after a short bout with cancer. She leaves a hole in the hearts of many. Carol was an amazing, kind, smart and generous woman. She spent endless hours with her family, grandchildren and many others who loved her. May those enduring her loss know that you’re in the thoughts and prayers of many.
Sympathy to Tom Morrish and his family on the passing of his aunt, Clora McEvoy. Clora lived to 101 years of age and never lost her spunk and love for life. Also, sympathy to Clora’s children, family members and all who knew her.
Sincere sympathy to the Lawres and Romyn families on the passing of Kevin Lawres. He will be fondly remembered by his family and many friends. Thoughts and prayers are with those grieving this sad loss.
