September slips on by apace

I can’t believe that it seems like September has just arrived and now we are nearing the middle of the month.

Time surely flies.

It has been a very busy time, and the list is long. I had a successful weekend, but of course I have some high expectations going forward. Long weekends really help, but the sunshine helps even more.

On Saturday, I went to Devlin to haul a load of hay home, and then I went west to Barwick and hauled a load of straw home. I spent most of the day on my tractor, but it was a good job off the list.

Saturday night my friend invited me for a hotdog over the fire, and I replied, “I would never turn down a good hotdog!”

I had two little girls that had picked out a lamb this spring, and they were looking for her to move to their place. My mom and I loaded her up and made that special delivery.

The hay that I had cut on Wednesday night wasn’t really drying much. I looked at the weather and decided that if I didn’t get it baled on Sunday, there was little chance I was going to get to it for a while. I spoke with my friend, and he said if I baled it, he would come wrap it.

I raked the hay and planned to leave it to dry as long as possible. Shane was out getting some of his deer cameras ready for the season. He checked some of the hay, and he thought we should try to make some small square bales.

We quickly unhooked/hooked equipment and put the hay conveyor in place. We tried to bale, but it was just too wet. We made about 10 bales. We then quickly hooked/unhooked again and went to bale with the round baler.

Shane and I were dripping sweat as we struggled to get the top on. I think we were rushing and trying too hard and caused our own grief. It was starting to really cloud up, and I was nervous that I would get rained out. I sped up.

I finished before the rain. I hauled the bales over to the field close to my house for wrapping. All before the rain came. The next day my friend wrapped it, as well as the straw that I brought home to make moving it around in the winter a little easier.

What a relief, and what great friends I have to help me out. Another friend brought over four more hay bales to wrap as well because he was in the same situation as me, wanting to get it baled off since it looked as though we were in for some wet days.

Sadly, on Friday my aunt lost her battle against liver disease. This is going to leave a very large hole in our family. If you don’t know, this is Dr. Stacey’s mom, so please be patient with her and her business during this difficult time.
