It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Clora Josephine McEvoy (Dumeney) at Riverside Health Care on September 6, at the age of 101 years old (but young at heart). She was born in Mine Centre on July 5, 1925.
She was predeceased by her husband Weldon McEvoy (1963); her partner Jim Burnett (1988); and her daughter Joyce Woodall (2023). She will be deeply missed by her children Alva Chapman, Yvonne Armstrong (Dennis), Gene McEvoy (Donna), Bill McEvoy, Pearl Pidlubny (Ron), Barb Bock (Paul), Jay Burnett and her sister-in-law Renee Dumeney. She will be affectionally remembered by her 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren and fondly remembered by all her nieces and nephews.
During the WWII, Clora worked at Canada Car in Thunder Bay to support the war effort. She served her community of Fort Frances for many years as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, where she became a lifetime member and proudly carried a flag in parades as member of the Colour Guard until she was 80 years old.
She enjoyed working as a nurse and a physio aid at La Verendrye Hospital. When she retired, she continued giving back to the community by volunteering at the day hospital and delivering meals on wheels.
She resided at Rainycrest during her last few years of life and was grateful for the care of the staff, whom she often praised for their hard work.
She remained active throughout her life and cherished gatherings with friends and family. She especially loved spending time on the lake, where she made many happy memories surrounded by those she loved.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
A celebration of her life will be held upstairs at the Fort Frances Royal Canadian Legion on October 24, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
