It is with great sadness that the family of Blondie Ditmars announce her passing on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026, at the age of 91, at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario.
Blondie was born December 8th, 1934, in Bruno, Saskatchewan to Peter and Mary Sobush. She grew up in Saskatchewan until moving to Fort William, Ontario (now Thunder Bay, Ontario) as a young girl. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Clyde Ditmars on August 7th, 1959. They spent many decades together until his passing in 2019, and together raised one son Van Ditmars. After years of working together on various business ventures in Kakabeka, Fort Frances and Thunder Bay, Blondie and Clyde retired to the lakeside home they built in Fort Frances, Ontario.
Blondie always had a full calendar and enjoyed traveling, golfing, curling and socializing with her friends and family. She spent many years travelling the world to watch and support the Canadian Women’s Curling Team; wintered in Florida for decades; and loved to garden. When she retired to Fort Frances, she enjoyed golfing and tending her many gorgeous flowerbeds at her home on the lake. She was also a frequent visitor to the Fort Frances Public Library as she was a voracious reader and often read a book or more each week. Blondie was a past member of the Kakabeka Curling Club and Fort William Curling Club.
She will be dearly missed by her brother Don (Jan) Sobush, brother-in-law Guy (Vi) Ditmars, sister-in-law Kelly Ditmars, as well as many loving nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
Blondie was predeceased by her husband Clyde, mother Mary, and father Peter.
The family wishes to thank the staff at La Verendrye General Hospital for the outstanding care they provided Blondie in her final days. And a special thanks to family friend Gino Cacciatore for being there for her.
As per her wishes, there will be no formal service. If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
