I feel like one of the best weekends of our year just passed by so quickly! At our barn cleanup, one of the members said to me, “I am already excited for the next Emo Fair.” It is just like Christmas with a lot of prep and excitement and then boom! It’s over.
We did end up with some rain on Saturday, but even with that, it was a great weekend.
We had an excellent cattle show Friday and Saturday. Congratulations to our Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer shown and sold by Rustin Chartien and to Myles Teeple for the Reserve Champion 4-H Steer. Carenna Haw had the Grand Champion 4-H female, followed by Georgia Romyn with the Reserve.
Our top showmen were Emily Romyn, followed by Bradley Teeple and Ryker Chartier. This is Ryker’s first year in 4-H, so that is quite an achievement. I am not sure of the Open Beef Show result, but we do that, and we can post these later. I was very happy with my heifers and how well they behaved. They were getting anxious to get home or at least get outside, but they cooperated well.
Our steer auction was incredible. It was likely one of the most consistent auctions we have ever had. Thank you so much to our generous community that attends our event and purchases these steers. Your support does not go unnoticed, and we are very grateful.
I didn’t get around to seeing a whole lot of the other exhibits and entries at the fair this year, but I hope that everyone had a great weekend. My shift in the 4-H food booth was a little less busy this year because of the stock races being cancelled, but overall, I think the booth had a really great weekend.
Once I finished my shift, I did make my way out to get some fair food because if I didn’t try cotton candy, I would regret it all year. I took the bag to work so all three of us would get to enjoy it.
A BIG thank you to Jason and Chantelle Teeple, who put in many hours and headaches to organize the barns and the beef show. They do a lot that really isn’t noticed, and I hope they know they are appreciated.
I was able to take four days off last week, but then when you return after those many days off and a busy weekend, it is usually a tough day. It was. But we managed to get through it and still laugh at the day.
It took us most of the afternoon, but we did combine our spring barley. Thank you to our friend Philip, who took the time to come and check on us after we went searching for a certain type of alligator clip for our conveyor belt. I am a bit surprised how much the grain is drying down. I guess with all our hot weather and lack of moisture, it shouldn’t be surprising.
I am likely down to the last couple of weeks with my students, and that really makes me sad. We had a great team, and it is going to be hard without them.
