CONNIE LEE WOOD

June 11, 1949 – August 9, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Connie Lee Wood, who passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, at the age of 77. Born on June 11, 1949, in Fort Frances, Connie spent her life surrounded by the people and community she loved.

Connie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 59 years, Norman Wood.

She was predeceased by her father Denis Ellis, and her mother Cora Campbell (Ellis); her beloved granddaughter Karrah Ogden and grandson Liam Mitchell; her special relatives Robert and Julia Chabot; brother-in-law Gerald Wood (Char); nephew Chad Wood; niece Josie Ireland; and special friends Mike and Marg McPherson.

Connie’s family was her world, and her greatest legacy was the family she loved so deeply. She is survived by her daughters Sherry Wood (Chris), Marilyn Rivalin (Garrett), Wendy DeGagne, and Dawn Wood; and her beloved son Norman Wood Jr. (Crystal).

She was a cherished grandmother to Taylor, Khali, Nolan, Kassidy, Brett, Cade, Kayli, Emily, Cierra, Madisyn, Maighyn, and Hunter, and was immensely proud of her 22 great-grandchildren. She was always so proud to share the joy they brought into her life.

Connie is also survived by her sister Christie Campbell; and her brothers Daniel Ellis, Gordon Campbell Jr., and Darren Campbell. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brothers-in-law Robert Wood (Vanessa), Fred Wood (Linda), Don Wood (June), and Phil Wood (Laraine); and sister-in-law Charlene Wood; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Connie spent most of her career at Rainycrest Home for the Aged, where she worked for more than 50 years before retiring in 2016. She took great pride in her work and always went above and beyond to ensure the residents felt cared for, valued and their very best.

She was also a proud member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #29 for 34 years.

One of Connie’s favourite places to be, and truly her happy place, was her beloved cabin on Old Station Road. She was incredibly proud of the beautiful place she and Norm shared and treasured every moment spent there. The cabin was more than a place to her—it was where memories were made, where family and friends gathered, and where she was happiest surrounded by the people she loved.

Connie lived for her family. She was her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s biggest fan and never missed an opportunity to support them. Whether she was sitting in the stands, watching them perform, attending their activities, or simply being there for the important moments in their lives, Connie was always cheering them on. Her presence was her way of saying, “I love you, and I’m proud of you.”

Connie was the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend anyone could ask for. Family was her world, and she devoted her life to loving, caring for and putting them first. She gave of herself selflessly and loved with her whole heart.

Her greatest legacy is the love she gave us and the family she held together. She taught us that family comes first, that love is shown through the little things, and that being there for the people you love is one of life’s greatest gifts.

She was, and always will be, the heart of our family.
