June 7, 1955 – July 11, 2026
Elena Patricia Wiebe (nee Rempel), in her 72nd year died peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB, after a brave journey with cancer. Surrounded by love and with her hands held, she departed this world to the lyrics of “Jesus Loves Me This I Know” and was met by her Heavenly Father.
While navigating her cancer diagnosis, Elena often shared her faith. And her desire to meet her Savior and see him face to face. She looked forward to seeing loved ones who went before her, especially her husband Ken. She felt peace and was not afraid.
Elena was the third daughter and sixth surviving child born to the late Cornelius Rempel and Eva Peters of Campo 38, Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Elena moved to Canada in 1972 with most of her family. Before settling in Kleefeld with her husband and beginning her Reflexology practice, she worked at various places and had many different jobs. Making friends wherever she went.

On February 4, 1989, Elena married Kenneth Wayne Wiebe (2023) and together they built a life together on the Wiebe family homestead farm near Kleefeld. She remained on the farm until 2024 when she retired to Steinbach.
Elena is survived by her brother Cornelius (Helena) of Aylmer, Ontario, and sisters Aganetha (late Cornelius) Wiebe, Mexico; Eva (Klaas) Wall of Steinbach, Manitoba; Justina (Phil) Friesen of Emo, Ontario; Marie (Charlie) Morken of Stratton, Ontario and Tina (George) Friesen of Fort Frances, Ontario. Also survived by sisters-in-law Sara (late John) Rempel and Margaret (David) Rempel. Elena is remembered by her sisters-in-law Evelyn Wiebe and Nancy Pries, and many nieces, nephews, greats, great greats, cousins and friends.
“Aunt Elena” to numerous nieces and nephews in Manitoba, across Canada, Mexico and beyond, she was always interested in their lives, health and faith.
She loved to receive updates and photographs, and with the invention of the internet, digital photography and social media, she was always pleased to receive images, especially as the next generation of greats and great greats began to arrive.
Elena loved reading devotionals and prayers. Reposting many of them. Sending them often also individually to those she felt prompted to. She chose to be led by the Spirit in this and it was a blessing to many. You always knew when she was thinking of you and her heart was praying for you.
She also greatly enjoyed listening to gospel songs. From varied artists.
Elena’s family wishes to thank the caring staff at Bethesda Regional Health Centre where they provided exceptional care throughout her final weeks. Thank you to all Elena’s family and friends who visited and called, keeping her spirits up, bringing her a smile, a song or a scripture reading. Elena’s faith was strengthened with the prayers offered by so many. “Thank you” is not nearly enough for the compassion and love given by her niece Evy who became her caregiver and dear friend Phyllis.
The funeral service for Elena Wiebe was held Monday, July 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing prior to the service.
