LOIS JUNE BENJAMIN

It is with profound sadness and quiet grace that the family announces the passing of Lois “June” Benjamin, in her 82nd year, on July 19, 2026, at La Verendrye Hospital, with her family by her side. June was born to William and Bernice Witherspoon on February 6, 1944, in Fort Frances, Ontario. She was a humble woman who lived with patience, selflessness, and deep devotion to her family.

On August 25, 1961, June married the love of her life, Alfred Benjamin. Together, they shared 59 years filled with laughter, adventure, and love. June and Alfred were blessed with three children: Sam, Dwain, and Donna.

June enjoyed her several years working at Greensides General Store in Devlin, followed by many years at the Devlin Daycare until her retirement. She gave generously of her time to the Devlin Community Hall, where she helped clean, set up events, and support community celebrations, including the Christmas celebration for children.

Her tireless service and generous spirit were recognized in 2014, when she was named Township of La Vallee Senior Citizen of the Year.

June lived with unwavering kindness and boundless generosity. Her home was a welcoming place for all, with an open door, a fresh pot of coffee, and a seat at the kitchen table for anyone who needed comfort, conversation, or a listening ear.

Beyond her devotion to family, June had a creative spirit. She had a gift for words and wrote several poems. She was also skilled at crocheting and shared many handmade dishcloths with people throughout the community. She especially enjoyed meeting friends at the Fort Frances Senior Centre (Sister Kennedy Centre) to play cards a couple of times each week.

To June, family was her greatest joy and highest priority. She poured her heart into creating a home filled with laughter, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her life was centered on what mattered most: making memories with her three children, eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

June will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sam (Bonnie), Dwain (Jackie), and Donna (Brad); her grandchildren, Jodi, Tasha, Brandy (Steve), Brock (Erika), Cole, Kayla (Jamie), Brandon (Haley), and Justin (Maddi); and her great-grandchildren, Kodi Jo, Hayden, Navy, Olivia, Bella, Leni, Addison, Ashton, Jackson, Scottland, and Sawyer. She will also be remembered by her sister, Marlene Witherspoon (Brian); her sisters-in-law, Margaret Benjamin, Millie Witherspoon and Laurie Lindberg; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special nieces, Cheri and Kristi Witherspoon, with whom she shared a unique bond.

June was predeceased by her parents, William and Bernice Witherspoon; her brothers, Don and Doug Witherspoon; sisters-in-law, Hazel Anderson and Alvina Pollard; and brothers-in-law, Donnie, Dean, Allie, Mervin, Marion, Ralph Benjamin, and Leon Swire.

With respect to June’s final wishes, a cremation will take place with no formal service planned.

Those who wish to honor June’s memory can do so be making a donation to the Fort Frances Senior Centre (Sister Kennedy Centre) or to the MRI unit at La Verendrye Hospital in support of the “Lights Camera Diagnosis Campaign.”
