With love and sadness we share the passing of our Mom, Nana and Great-Nana on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Mom was born on June 5, 1943, in Sundown, Manitoba. A beautiful Ukrainian baby girl, the eighth child of ten to Steve and Annie (Semeniuk) Eluik. Left to treasure her in our hearts are her children Richard Dale Lowey (Wendy) and Elizabeth Anne Marie Petersen; grandchildren Brett (Noelle), Connor (Katherine), Erik (Lacy) and Carly (Justin); great-grandchildren Jacob, Mira, Lennon and Blaise; sisters Alice Lougheed, Mary Holland; brother John Eluik (Judy); sisters-in-law Sonya, Marie and Bev.
Mom was pre-deceased by her husband Leo Langlois; sisters Helene Rekrut, Lillian Lindholm and brothers William, Paul, Mike and Nick Eluik.

Mom spent her early years in Deerlock, Ont., and attended a one-room schoolhouse. She then moved to Brandon, Man., to commence working and then to Fort Frances to marry and have her children. She then moved to Winnipeg to further her career and eventually retire. Mom was a very active lady, gardening, sewing, reading, knitting, and preparing unforgettable Ukrainian meals on special occasions and family visits. The cabbage rolls, perogies, fresh baking and dill pickles that made your mouth pucker. A famous family recipe from Baba Eluik. Mom was a very generous and giving person. She always thought of others, collecting items for new Ukrainian families to Manitoba, the Food Bank, battered women, and the homeless. She was a 25 year member of the CWL (Catholic Women’s League). She held many positions from organizer, treasurer, greeter and communion minister. Her faith was unwavering. Mom liked to travel and travelled to Jamaica a few times. Most memorable was two weeks with Rick, Wendy, Anne Marie, Kevin, Mel and Iris Petersen. Mom joined Anne Marie, Erik and Carly for a fun filled trip to Disneyland in California. Mom spent a great week in Hawaii with her granddaughter Carly Petersen.
There were many road trips to Winnipeg, Kamloops, Castlegar, Bemidji, Duluth, and Minneapolis to visit family, friends, country music concerts and take Rick and Anne Marie to Hockey Hall of Fame, Valleyfair and Minnesota State Fair. A very proud Nana attended the University graduations and weddings of her grandsons, Brett and Connor. One of her greatest achievements that she was proud of was bowling a 325 in 5 pin bowling… almost a perfect game at Plaza Lanes in Fort Frances. Mom loved music, her favorites were Conway Twitty, Charley Pride, Elvis, Daniel O’Donnell, Neil Diamond and Celine Dion. Christmas was not complete until Mom put her Boney M Christmas album on the turntable. On her 75th birthday, Rick drove up in a white Rolls Royce to her home in Ste Anne and they drove to Kendall Inlet, Lake of the Woods, and celebrated on the houseboat. Mom was a sports fan of the Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Rick, Wendy, Brett, Connor and Mom attended a bitter cold November Grey Cup in Winnipeg.
After retirement, Mom, Leo, and their dogs Baby girl and Min-Min were snowbirds for winters at Val Vista Resort in Mesa, Arizona, Enjoying the sunshine, visiting with family members and numerous old and new friends. Rick and Anne Marie took Mom to the PGA Seniors Championship final in Phoenix. What a thrill to see the golfers she watched on TV for so many years.
There is no love stronger than a mother’s love for her children, with the addition of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her heart was overflowing with love.
We would like to thank the amazing and dedicated Doctors, nurses and staff at Victoria Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes, we will be escorting her ashes home to her final resting place at Chapple Cemetery in Barwick, Ont.
