Spring tea and bazaar at Our Lady of the Way School

The Women of Our Lady of the Way will host a Spring Tea and Bazaar this Saturday, April 25, from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Admission is $5 and the Bazaar takes place at Our Lady of the Way school.

There will be bake tables, a door prize, draws and more. Come out and enjoy a lovely afternoon!

The Retired Nurses Luncheon takes place Friday, May 8, at the Knox United Church in Fort Frances. Seating starts at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per ticket, including gratitude. Tickets are available at Norwoods in Fort Frances or Emo Drug Store. Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Joanne Ogden. Her unexpected passing on April 13 left many saddened. The district is holding all those grieving in our hearts.

Happy 70th birthday to Cheryl Bragg. Cheryl enjoyed this milestone birthday on April 20. Family celebrated this birthday with her, along with her many friends sending wishes for a memorable birthday!

Happy 50th birthday to Dayle Allen. Dayle reached this milestone birthday on April 15th. A surprise birthday party was held in her honour along with many other birthday wishes sent her way!

Congratulations to Isaac and Emily Stromness on the birth of their first child. Grace May was born April 15th. Proud grandparents are Bob and Shirley Bird (first time grandparents) and Larry and Julie Stromness and great-grandparents Dick Bird and Shirley Dillman.

Danny Wilson is home from being in the hospital in Toronto. He’s doing well and having a hard time taking life slow, but he’s doing his best. Sending wishes for a full recovery from the district.

The Emo Spring Fever Days held April 16-18 was another successful three days. Although the temperatures were cold and the winds strong, that didn’t stop people from attending. The three Chamber Bucks draws were won by Brett Allan and Paul Neurinski winning $250, and Gerry Desserre pocketing $500.

Hats off to the Emo Chamber of Commerce, organizers and all volunteers, businesses and all that help make this an enjoyable event.

The Emo Legion 50/50 draw was won by Emma Low, Emma won $3,000.

The Emo Legion will host a corn-hole tournament this Friday, April 24. If more information is required call the Legion at 482-2250.

The West Rainy River District Lions Club will be selling tickets this Saturday, April 25, at the Bergland Vendor Event. Tickets are $20 and you could win a 3-night, 2-day all-inclusive fishing trip for four people, supplied by Sunset Cove Resort. This is the early bird draw that takes place on September 19 at the Rainy River Walleye Tournament. The grand prize is for a 2026 Wolverine, equipped with hard cab, heater, winch and 12-foot strong haul trailer. This draw takes place November 7, at the Hunters Supper in Stratton. All proceeds raised are donated to worthy causes that benefit our entire district.

The Sunset Country Palliative Care Committee invites everyone and their loved ones to their annual “Pushing Up Daisies” fair. Explore informational booths and connect with local services offering support for you and your family throughout the end-of-life journey. This year’s event also features powerful keynote speakers you won’t want to miss. This event takes place Tuesday, May 12, from 2-6 p.m. at the Emo Legion. Sunset Country Metis Council will host an evening featuring Brandi Vezina on her Highway & Wildfowers Tour on Saturday, May 9, at the Sunset Country Metis Community Hall, 714 Armit Ave. Fort Frances. Doors open at 6:30p.m. Entertainment starts at 7 p.m. Free for all ages.
