GORDON GEORGE

May 8, 1966 — April 5, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon George, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Gordon passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, at the age of 59, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and kindness that touched everyone he met.

Born on May 8, 1966, in the small, nurturing community of Rainy River, Ontario, Gordon was the cherished son of the late Gordon Comegan and Agnes George. He was also predeceased by his grandmother Ruth; aunts Martha and Georgina; uncles Brian and Louie; and his dear sisters Mary, Betty, Evelyn, Colleen, and brother Wayne. In his passing, Gordon joins these cherished family members, leaving us with treasured memories of their time together.

Gordon is survived by his loving children, Jocelyn and her children Cadence, Elgin, Lily, Lucianna; Lindsey, Starlette, and Haven, who were the light of his life. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by his siblings and extended family, including Micky, Gabrielle, Jenn, Alyshia, Brandon, Jaden; Albert, Samantha, Derek; Elvis, Christine, Bethany, Amanda; Jason; Bradley; sisters, Merle; Dianna, Jasmine, Katia, Jarod, Kris; and his Aunt Lorraine, Clarence, Leana, Candace, Clarence Jr., Bella, and George; his extended family from the George and Comegan families; along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, will remember him fondly.

Gordon was a man of many talents and passions. He found joy in the simple yet profound moments of life, often expressing his creativity through the art of wood burning. His hands were never idle, whether he was crafting something beautiful or tending to the needs of his community. Gordon’s work as a plumber, which he often undertook alongside his dear friend Lester, was a testament to his dedication and skill. He found peace and camaraderie on the lake with his close friends Wes and Ardy, their afternoons filled with laughter and the quiet companionship that only old friends share.

Music was a cornerstone of Gordon’s life, and he shared this love generously, particularly with his grandson Elgin, whom he encouraged to grow into a strong and capable young man. Gordon’s heart was as vast as the night sky he loved to gaze upon, sharing stories and laughter with those around him. His generosity and warmth were felt by all who knew him, whether he was playing chess with his granddaughter Lucianna, spoiling Lilly and Luci with treats, or hosting joyous barbecues and bonfires.

A devoted grandfather, Gordon took immense pride in his grandchildren’s achievements, particularly Cadence’s pursuit of education. His bond with his daughter Jocelyn was filled with mutual respect and shared interests, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Gordon’s love for his children Starlette and Haven was unwavering, and he cherished their time together, making each moment special. He dreamed of visiting Lindsey and her children in Quebec, a wish he held dear to his heart.

Gordon shared a special bond with his beloved cat, Puddy, who was a constant companion and a source of comfort.

Gordon will be remembered as a man full of life, warmth, and generosity – someone who loved deeply and gave what he could to those around him. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A wake will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, at Big Island First Nation Community Hall with a service to celebrate Gordon’s life on April 16, at 10:00 a.m. where family and friends will gather to honour the remarkable man he was.

As his family beautifully expressed, Gordon will be “Forever in our Hearts.”
