It is sounding like March is planning to head out like a lion! I am hoping the predictions are wrong, especially since I am currently out of town and heading home later this week. My mom is in charge but she doesn’t need any extra work or worry with a bunch of snow. I was afraid we would pay for the lack of snow we have had since most places around us definitely had more. I was really hoping my last two cows would calve before I had to take this trip, but know full well that they do as they please. Thankfully Friday they both popped out their babies and we have completed our calving season. This happened just in time for us to move the ewes into the barn. I think we are likely a week away from lambs, but I didn’t want my mom to have to deal with them. This way she can see them on the barn cameras and doesn’t have to make frequent trips over to my place. They are warm in the barn with their full winter coat on. Sounds like the sheep shearer will be here the first weekend in June, which really isn’t that far away!
Rainy River Soil & Crop hosted a great AGM last week with great attendance and some excellent speakers. We were lucky to have the President of Ontario Soil & Crop Andy Van Niekerk tour the Rainy River District. Thankfully the guests did a quick tour of the District and had a great visit at Brielmann Ag. I explained to them that this isn’t our best time of the year and encouraged them to come back when things are green and beautiful. So many people miss out on visiting the Rainy River District because they stick to the Trans-Canada. I am always happy to let them know that they are missing out.
We have been really cramming in meetings at work. Lots of companies have some newer products they would like us to test at our stations. Then we had a day of on-line safety training so we were all getting tired of sitting at our computer. I reminded myself it was better to be doing all these meetings in this weather rather than when it is warm and sunny.
Since I was flying out of Winnipeg, I had a couple of parcels to deliver to a University student. She was out of town for the weekend so she texted me when she got back into the city and went to the airport parking lot. You now have wifi on airplanes so I was able to unlock my truck from my phone and she was able to gather her treats. I know there are a lot of mixed feelings about technology, but there are a lot of cool things we can do these days.
Wishing everyone a great Easter weekend. This is the first year that I am not planning an Easter Hunt for Maddie and Marlee. Maddie won’t be home so we are going to postpone the hunt until her return! I will have to find something special for Marlee though, because she is getting left out because of her sister! Happy Easter, friends.
