It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Joe Georgeson on Thursday, March 19, 2026.
Joe was born in Emo, Ont., on May 8, 1940, to Ernie and Madeleine Georgeson. He grew up on the family homestead farm and was actively involved in 4-H as a youth. When he was 16 he started working on his own cutting pulpwood for his cousin Jess Georgeson and others. He also worked for Bell Canada for a short time, installing telephone poles in the district, including those between Fort Frances and Emo. After working a few years for the Texaco Bulk Distributor in Atikokan, Joe bought the business. For 10 years he operated the plant in Atikokan, hauling fuel and oil to Caland Ore Mine and bush camps. He then became the Texaco Bulk Distributor in Fort Frances for another 10 years, until the business sold.

Not one to be idle, Joe bought a gravel truck and loader, and enjoyed hauling sand, gravel, and snow for different contractors and for himself. Joe attended the Off Lake Covenant Church from his teenage years. He had a strong faith and it continued to grow under the guidance of different pastors for over 60 years. He enjoyed the fellowship of the church family. When he could no longer worship there, he watched services from his former pastor, Dan Pearson, on his TV from home. Dan’s weekly services were a great comfort to him.
Joe had a passion for learning. He completed his Grade 10 diploma from the country school at the age of 16 and in his 20s, took correspondence business courses to increase his knowledge. He was so proud of Julie and Rob graduating from Lakehead University, and to be able to see his grandkids now studying at the University of Manitoba.
Joe loved gardening and every summer tended to his huge potato patch. He could eat potatoes seven days a week, so he never wanted to ever run out! Throughout the years, Joe enjoyed sports and sponsored many local teams and stock cars. His favourite hockey teams were the Montreal Canadiens, the Winnipeg Jets, and every team that his grandchildren played on. Joe had a wonderful personality. He was very kind and generous – often going out of his way to help others. He loved to tease and was always willing to share a laugh. He loved visiting with his friends and family.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shari; his daughter Julie and her husband Justin Taylor; his son Rob and his wife Jaana; and his two precious grandchildren Issy and George. He is also survived by his sisters Connie Sinclair and Janet Johnson; brother Dan Georgeson; sisters-in-law Joyce Georgeson and Linda Wilson; brother-in-law David Ball; and many treasured nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother Floyd Georgeson; nephew Roy Johnson; and brothers-in-law Ron Sinclair, Kent Johnson and Alex Wilson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at New Beginnings Fellowship Church in Fort Frances, Ont.
If friends desire, donations may be made to “Riverside Health – MRI Campaign” or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank Dr. Patel, Dr. Laxton, and the nurses at Riverside for the wonderful care Joe received.
