All good things come to an end—or, sometimes, an extra end.
Doug Boyd of Fort Frances had to clock some overtime, but was glad to put in the additional effort as his rink edged the Bryan Bonot foursome of Stratton 5-4 in 12 ends here Sunday to capture the Royal Canadian Legion senior men’s district curling title.
Boyd and his team of Ken McKinnon, Orville Eyolfson, and Conrad Lemieux now advance to the provincial championship for the Manitoba-Northwesetern Ontario region Feb. 9-13 in Winnipeg.
Sioux Lookout and Ignace also fielded teams in last weekend’s event at the Fort Frances Curling Club, which came on the heels of last month’s “Regular Division” district playdowns.
Skip Sandra Robertson and her team of Julie Crichton, Charlotte Bazylewski, and Grace Angus outduelled a variety of male challengers to become the first district champion ladies’ team from this area to qualify for the Regular Division at the provincial championship, which will be held at the same time as the senior men’s in Winnipeg.
