Thunder split with Knights

They weren’t Knights in white satin, but Northwest Wisconsin had the Borderland Thunder suffering some moody blues over the weekend.
Three second-period goals, including two on the power play, carried the Knights to a 3-2 victory Saturday and a split with the Thunder in SIJHL action.
Trevor Thomas, Jake Smith, and Mike Polini all beat Jamie Munro, who lost only his second game in 11 decisions this season, as the first-place Thunder (22-6-4-1) saw their four-game winning streak snapped.
“We don’t have that killer instinct,” said Thunder head coach Dave Allison. “Northwest Wisconsin played with a great deal of passion. It was like it was their Stanley Cup.”
Josh McAndrew and A.J. Tucker scored for the Thunder, who had beaten the Knights (5-10) by a 4-2 count Friday night.
The Thunder broke open a 1-1 tie with two goals in 1:03 in the second period in their first game since Oct. 5 against the Knights, who play only a partial SIJHL schedule while also competing in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League.
Ryan Sinclair, ‘Critter’ Nagurski, Chad Baldwin, and Jay Phillips scored for the Thunder in that game while Jeff Coopman had both goals for the Knights.
The Thunder next take on the Dryden Ice Dogs (20-12-2-1) at the Ice for Kids Arena tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the third match-up between these teams in the last 13 days, with the Thunder winning the previous two.
