A Fort Frances youth has been charged in connection with a fatal accident Dec. 11 that claimed the life of 15-year-old Rachel Nelson.
The youth, who cannot be named under the Young Offenders Act, was charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death and one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, Fort Frances OPP reported Friday morning.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court here Feb. 24, police added.
Emo OPP has now concluded its investigation into the single-vehicle accident which had occurred on Frog Creek Road around 11 a.m. that day.
Meanwhile, officers of the Fort Frances and Emo OPP detachments conducted 12 commercial motor vehicle inspections at the Emo detachment yesterday.
Officers issued six provincial offence notices under the Highway Traffic Act for various offences relating to the transportation of dangerous goods, mechanical fitness of vehicles, and vehicle documentation.
Inspectors also pulled two vehicles out of service and issued several warnings to drivers.
The OPP is committed to ensuring the safety of motorists in Rainy River District with more inspections similar to yesterday’s planned.
Also yesterday, Rainy River OPP charged a 44-year-old Dawson Township man with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level over 80 mg after his vehicle was stopped on Highway 617 in Morley Township.
He is slated to appear in court Feb. 27, police said.
