Gavel team earns three podium spots

When you reach your goals, it’s satisfaction guaranteed.
A season-long chase for a place on the podium finally had a happy outcome for two members of the Gavel Racing Team in Kenora last weekend during the latest stop on the North West Racing Association (NWRA) snowmobile circuit.
Mike Gavel, 18, sprinted his way to a second-place finish in the Sport Fan 440 class while missing the final for the Sport 440 division.
His younger brother, Danny, 15, placed eighth in the Junior 14/15 category, but stepped up his performance when he moved up in age class by nabbing a third-place finish in the Junior 17/18 division.
The third Gavel brother, 14-year-old Robbie, came through with a fourth-place finish in the Junior 16/17 group and was sixth in the Junior 14/15 class.
Family patriarch John Gavel managed a fourth-place showing in the Masters division to go along with fifth-place finishes in the 30-plus and Sport Fan events.
The female member of the team made her mark, too, as Christina Goodman took third spot in the women’s division.
Team pit crew worker John Fuhrer also took his spin around the track on the weekend, snaring a sixth-place finish in the 30-plus category.
The team next will fire up their engines at a circuit stop in Morris, Man. on Feb. 15-16.
