CNIB crocuses still available

With the remaining unsold crocus bulbs not being shipped back to Thunder Bay until Friday, they still are available at the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau (old CN station) while supplies last.
“We still have about 80 plants. We apparently got more than we thought we did,” Vanessa Hebert, executive co-ordinator of the Volunteer Bureau, said of the annual fundraiser for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB).
“It’s been pretty successful. Last year, we didn’t get as many and had to order more,” she noted. “This year, we have more than we ordered, so it’s been about the same in terms of sales.”
More than 500 pots—each holding five-six imported Dutch crocus bulbs—were shipped here, including about 360 that were pre-ordered.
Hebert said those who thought they missed the sale last week, or who have since decided they wanted more crocus bulbs, are welcome to drop by the Volunteer Bureau from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The cost is $4 per pot or three for $10, but Hebert said she might be willing to knock down the price.
“We want to get rid of as many of them as we can,” she remarked. “It’s better than sending them back to Thunder Bay and risking them freezing.”
Some other specialty items from the CNIB—such as note cards and painted pots with a crocus emblem on them—also are still available for purchase at the Volunteer Bureau this week.
The shipment of crocuses and merchandise arrived here from Thunder Bay last Tuesday.
