My name is Liam Oliver Neilson. I’m a newcomer to your community, recently hired as a staff writer and reporter at your local newspaper, the Fort Frances Times.
I was born and raised in one of Canada’s most southern municipalities, Windsor, Ont. I lived there until I was recruited into the reserves, which allowed me to travel throughout Ontario and the maritime provinces as an Army Vehicle Technician.
It was an eventful time in my life where I made great memories, but not the career I had envisioned for myself forever. I left the military on good terms in 2022 and enrolled in a journalism program at Humber College in Toronto.

After a few years spent acquiring the skills necessary for this profession, I graduated in April 2025. Ready to begin working in this field, I started my job hunt and was lucky enough to come across the job posting for this position.
Outside of the workplace, hobbies I keep busy with usually include camping, skateboarding and recreational photography.
I also like to spend a fair bit of my time playing or watching baseball. Toronto quickly turned me into a Blue Jays fan, so I’ll be hoping for a season as great as last year’s.
I’m excited to get to know the people in the area and become an active member in your community myself as the year progresses.
If you’d ever like to get in contact with me regarding a story, please feel free to reach out by email to lneilson@fortfrances.com.
