Snow Removal

to do some basic activities of daily living.

After each snowfall, several sidewalks, curb ramps, and walkways have remained uncleared or inadequately cleared along Scott Street. This creates significant barriers for people with mobility challenges, including wheelchair users, individuals who use walkers or canes, parents with strollers, and our growing aging population. Icy and blocked pathways also increase the risk of slips and falls for everyone.

Maintaining clear and accessible walkways is essential, especially during winter months, to ensure that all community members can travel safely and independently. Timely and thorough snow and ice removal helps support accessibility, public safety, and compliance with accessibility standards.

Accessibility legislation, including the Accessibility Act, recognizes that public spaces must be usable by all people, regardless of age or ability. Proper snow and ice removal is a key part of meeting these obligations, as accessibility is not seasonal. When sidewalks and curb cuts are blocked or unsafe, many residents are effectively excluded from participating in daily activities such as attending appointments, shopping for necessities, or using public transportation.

I appreciate your careful consideration to this matter,
