Atikokan man arrested following break and enter

One man is in police custody following a break and enter in Atikokan.

According to a press release from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at approximately 2:45 p.m., officers responded to a break and enter incident on Male Crescent in Atikokan. As police arrived on scene, the suspect fled and barricaded himself in his residence. Further investigation by the OPP found that the same individual was also wanted for assault from a previous incident earlier the same day.

Members of the OPP Emergency Respoinse Team, OPP Canine Unit, OPP Crisis Negotiators and North West Region Crime Unit members were deployed to assist the officers of the Atikokan OPP Detachment, which eventually led to the individuals safe arrest by police officers.

As a result of the investigation, a 47-year-old male of Atikokan has been charged under the criminal code with:

  • Forcible Entry
  • Break and Enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Assault with a weapon

“The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Fort Frances on December 17, 2025,” the OPP said.
